About Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is located in the Mayan Riviera and extends until the entrance to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere just south of Tulum. Please note that our hotel is 45 minutes away from the Cancun international airport.

Playa del Carmen is located just about in the middle of the Riviera Maya and is easily accessible from all the resorts in the area.

Playa is also the main town in the Riviera Maya and perfectly located to visit other cool places such as the Mayan Pyramids in Tulum, the National Parks in Xel Ha, tropical islands like Cozumen (only 45 minutes away in Ferry), among many others.

Getting Around

You will need to fly (or swim) to Cancun International Airport. The airport code is CUN

Please note that the hotel is approximately 45 minutes away from Cancun International Airport.

You can get to the hotel in Uber or Taxi. Don't worry. Ubers are safe in Cancun ;)

Currency

The currency in Mexico is the Mexican Peso. The exchange rate is about 19 pesos per US dollar.

You can exchange money at the airport, hotels or currency exchange houses.

Most times you will be able to pay in dollars if you don't have pesos with you.

Credit cards are generally accepted. For taxis you will need cash.

Tipping in Playa del Carmen

Tipping between 10-15% of the bill is customary in restaurants in Mexico.

In hotels the staff will appreciate when good service is recognized by tipping even when rates "include tips".

If you are eating out, check your bill to make sure if they already included the tip in the final price in which case there is no need to add an extra.

Electricity and power plugs in Mexico

In Mexico (Playa del Carmen included), the standard voltage is 127 V and the frequency is 60 Hz. You can use your electric appliances in Mexico, if the standard voltage in your country is in between 110 - 127 V (as is in the US, Canada and most South American countries).

Weather in Playa del Carmen in June

June marks the start of the summer season in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and the temperatures are warm at this time of year. Summer is also the rainy season. Despite this, the days are still long and filled with sunshine, and there is plenty to see and do around town.

Average temperatures in June sit at around 28°C/82° F, though they can rise to 32°C/89° F during the hotter parts of the day. The evenings and nights in June are very pleasant with low temperatures rarely dropping below 25°C/77° F. This means that you won't need to pack any thick layers unless you want to.

Please do remember to pack plenty of sunscreen as the sun is strong this time of year :)
