It was the Summer of 2013. Angel had started her internship at BMO, and Hao had already conquered two years of that banking life. As a fresh-faced analyst, Angel had passed by Hao numerous times in the hallways of that office and had politely nodded each time. Each time, Hao passed by with no acknowledgement of her presence. To this day, he claims those nods never happened.
In the Spring of 2014, Angel returned to BMO, and as fate would have it, she was placed into Hao’s group. Two complete opposites slowly became friends and turned into each other’s closest confidantes. We didn’t know at the time that what started as friendship would blossom into a whirlwind romance, and in the Fall of 2016, our love story began.
...how to be adventurous and curious, to live life with passion and zest... Angel took Hao on new adventures... traveling across the Greek Islands, Spain and Italy... road tripping along the Pacific Coast Highway... visiting museums and art galleries... feeding a giraffe... snorkeling in Mexico... eating omakase, and even getting Hao do a 10K run for charity, TWICE!
...how to be "cerebral", to be calm and collected, to worry less and learned to be unfazed by the little things in life... Hao introduced Angel to the world of sports, taking her on countless Raptors games, teaching her the names of all the players even though she was only interested in seeing Drake... and call this man ambitious, because Hao even went as far as attempting to explain to Angel the complicated rules of football...
Bonded by our love of music and the bubbly, we spent several memorable summers in the City popping bottles and having the time of our lives with our wonderful friends! And as one of our dear friends would say... What a time to be alive!
In the Summer of 2018, Hao surprised Angel with a weekend getaway to The City of Saints. Against his city boy nature, Hao invited Angel to hike up Mount Royal, and with that, Angel knew something was up. Reaching the top of Mount Royal, the two relaxed in front of the lake, and on that lush green grass beneath a clear blue sky, Hao got down on one knee. Following a heartfelt speech and tears of joy from both, Angel said “Yes!”
Just like that, an exciting new chapter of our lives began, and the rest of our story is to be continued...
