How to get there
If you are flying into Italy and heading straight to the villa, we recommend one of the major international airports nearby:
Florence: 1 1/4 hour drive (85 km / 53 miles)
Rome: 2 1/2 hour drive (249 km / 155 miles)
You can also fly into Pisa, which hosts more regional flights. Pisa is 108 miles from the venue.
The nearest train stations are Montevarchi, Bucine, Arezzo, and Siena.
Please Note that there is no public transportation from any stations to Casa Cornacchi. If you need to arrange a transfer from the station, please ask us for details!
Rental Cars
Renting a car is the best way to explore Tuscany because there are so many small hill towns that are not accessible by train.
Here are a few tips to help make sure you're prepared:
Get an International Drivers Permit - Italy does require it, although most rental car companies will rent you a car without one. This would mostly be in case you are pulled over. It is only $20 however and could save you a big headache. If you decide to get one, you can apply here through AAA.
Know the City Rules - If you do decide to drive into some of the larger cities, such as Florence or Rome, do a bit of research. For example, Florence has a Limited Traffic Zone (ZLT) which restricts all traffic with the exception of taxis, buses, and residents. You can get around these rules by just doing a bit of research and knowing where you can park before driving into the city.
Casa Cornacchi is in between towns, literally on a hill in the middle of Tuscany. There could be some dead zones on your way with GPS. If you are looking for traveling WiFi/hotspot, we recommend Skyroam by Solis where you can get 10% off at sign up.
Driving from North
Florence (airport): Take Autostrada A1 towards Roma. Drive 56 km to the Exit at Valdarno (about 30-40 minutes). After the tollgates turn right following signs to Arezzo and Levane and Bucine. At Levane turn right (road no. 540) and keep following signs for Bucine and Siena driving by Bucine and the villages of Capannole, Ambra, Pietraviva. About 2km after Pietraviva you find a turn on your right to Montebenichi and Casa Cornacchi. Follow the sign for Casa Cornacchi until destination (2 km).
Driving from South
Rome (airport): Take the Autostrada A1 towards Firenze (Florence) and drive for about 150 Km to the exit VALDICHIANA. After the tollgate there is a roundabout. Take the first road on the right and follow the sign to SIENA - FOIANO DELLA CHIANA - PERUGIA - ASSISI - GUBBIO - CORTONA - RAPOLANO TERME - SIENA. After 1 Km turn right direction to SIENA (road n°326/73) for about 25 Km passing by the towns of Rigomagno, Rapolano Terme and Armaiolo. Take the exit called "Colonna del Grillo" and follow signs to Bucine (left), after about 5 Km turn left to Montebenichi and Casa Cornacchi. Follow the sign for Casa Cornacchi until destination (2 km).
