Ceremony Site

We are getting married at the Jardin Los Lavaderos inside the Quinta Real Hotel. If you are staying in the city center (which we highly encourage), you will likely be no more than a 10 minute walk or 5 minute taxi away.

Flights

Oaxaca is in southern Mexico and about a 5 hour flight from San Francisco.

As of now, there are nonstop flights to Oaxaca from LAX, Dallas, and Houston.

We recommend setting an alert on Kayak or checking Google Flights for the best prices and easy-to-see schedules.

Transportation

From the Airport

Oaxaca airport is very small but organized! It is easy and safe to use their taxi service arranged inside the airport.

Towards the exit there is a booth with published taxi rates into the centro. Book and pay for either a private taxi or a seat in a shared collectivo which makes multiple stops. Keep your receipt, walk outside, and someone will direct you to the correct car. Some basic Spanish skills will go a long way here but are not necessary.

You can also pre-arrange a pickup with your hotel.

Around Town

Uber and Lyft are not available in Oaxaca, but taxis are plentiful and cheap. We have found that taxi drivers generally understand enough English to get you where you need to go and tell how much it will be (though they will often reply in Spanish, so brush up on numbers!). Rides within the center should be around $60 MXN.

Oaxaca is very pedestrian-friendly and almost everything in the city center is within walking distance. You probably won't need to use a taxi very often.

For longer trips outside of town, your hotel or Airbnb host can help arrange a driver with a fixed rate or we can pass on the number for several drivers we have liked and used in the past.

Travel Notes

Flight Recommendations

There are direct flights to Oaxaca from LAX, Dallas, and Houston. If you can, position your flight to transit through one of these cities.

Avoid transit through Mexico City if possible. Not because it's dangerous, but because (we've learned) there is too much air traffic for the size of this airport which leads to frequent delays. Also, clearing customs in Oaxaca is way easier.

Don't worry if this doesn't work for you, or if you're planning to tack on a trip to Mexico City! Just assume there may be a few hours delay so don't book anything with a very tight connection.

It may be worth booking a round-trip ticket to and from Mexico City and flying one of Mexico's budget airlines into Oaxaca. We've had good experiences on Interjet and Volaris, though you need to be aware of baggage restrictions. We do not recommend Aeromexico due to poor customer service.
