Latest info about traveling to Greece travel.gov.gr/#/
Suggested Wedding attired - Beach formal
Although we have suggested a dress code, keep in mind that we appreciate everybody's creativity and style. Therefore it is NOT mandatory but in case you're looking for ideas
We recommend to book accommodation in Varkiza or near by. We do NOT recommend to book accommodation in Athens.
Airbnb is a very affordable option, we highly recommend it
If you're traveling for a longer holiday, we recommend you to look for major airports like Paris, London, Brussels, Madrid, Rome, Athens, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, etc and then look for separate flights within Europe. Train is only an affordable option when book very much in advance.
Utilize the multi-city function of known flights search engines like SkyScanner, Kayak, Expedia, etc
Helpful info for your packing
If you're wondering about the weather and what to bring over when packing, we recommend that you take a look at historical temperatures, 21 st of September last year varied from 25 to 32 C in Athens but use the link if you would like to check other regions or for a longer period of time in Greece
While in Greece
Cash is needed for a lot of things. We recommend to have 50 Euro per person in cash at all times.
It’s recommended to use bank ATMs to get cash instead of exchange houses or to bring other currency from other countries. Some known banks are Piraeus bank, National bank of Greece, Eurobank Ergasias, Alpha Bank, Attica Bank, HSBC, Citibank,Aegean Baltic bank, etc
Taxis and Ubers are the same thing
Always carry water with you. Tap water is safe to drink
Bring swimming shoes as some beaches are very rocky.
To tourist around, please bring good walking shoes
We recommend that you rent a car as taxi from and to the airport is €50 each way to Varkiza
Hair and make up option
Our hair and make-up artist is offering a discount price for a group of 10 or more people to get hair and/or make up on the day of the wedding for €60 for hair and €60 for make up per person. If you’re interested please let us know to tell her in advanced
If you are taking the train from the airport to Athens please make sure that you validate your ticket before you walk to waiting platform. If ticket is not validated you will not be able to get out of the station when you arrive at your destination or if your ticket is check then you will received a fine that is quite expensive. The validation tickets machines are small and there is nothing forcing you to validate it, therefore it is super easy to miss it.
When visiting Acropolis, use the Dionisio theater entrance, it usually has shorter queue and the incline to get up to the Parthenon is less steep.
If you are spending a few days in Athens, try to book your accommodation close to Monastiraki square, it is very central and you will be able to walk everywhere
To go through all the historic places it is better to buy the ticket that includes all of them, in a whole day you can go through most (Except Acropolis) therefore it is worth the discount.
Food in Athens is really delicious, but we recommend that you pay attention where locals eat, it is usually better. However the tourist traps are also quite good.
Varkiza resort has a very nice view and the restaurant is ok
Cape Sounio has the old temple of Poseidon. It's about 45 min from Varkiza, Consider visiting only if you have enough available time. Taxi cost us 42 Euros each way.
A walk along side the beach is absolutely worth it
Some beaches are free entrance but you cannot bring your own drinks, food or towel to sit down e.g. Yabanaki beach, Coyoacan Beach, Astir beach, etc. If there is a big sign with the beach name is probably not free, however we went there after 6pm and we only had to pay for our drinks.
In here we went to the supermarket ΣΚΛΑΒΕΝΙΤΗΣ to buy basic stuff during our stay, that you can also find in Vouliagmenis and generally around the Vari region.
The grilled Feta cheese with honey is delicious!
In some restaurants they will give you ouzo (aperitive alcohol) at the end of your meal, it is not free and you can tell the waiter that you didn't order it and send it back or drink it and get into the festive spirit.
