All main courses are accompanied by creative sauces from Chef Jean François Desmoulins.

Hector's Bistro

Feeling fancy huh? Here at Hector’s Bistro, you will find French cuisines with a Spanish twist . They serve some of the best fillets that you can pair with their wide variety of wines. Their duck is quite good as well- this restaurant is definitely on the upscale side in Antigua, with white table clothes. Perfect for romantic dinner plans in the evening. They also serve breakfast and lunch.

Meson Panza Verde

Mesón Panza Verde is well known for its fine cuisine and romantic ambiance. Dine in the elegant Main Sala with vaulted ceiling, amid fine wines and original paintings. Its reputation for "International Cuisine with a Twist" has made it a favorite for Guatemalans and international travelers alike.

If you prefer, you can choose to be served on the corridor surrounding the main garden, on the terrace in romantic candle filled setting for two in the Cupula or in La Cueva, where live music is performed on certain nights of the week.

Things to Do

Mercado de Artesanías

Many people consider the Artisan Market to be the main ‘tourist market’. Full of colourful textiles, traditional blankets, wooden masks, jade jewellery and woven purses, it’s an incredibly photogenic place to wander around. Because it’s a tourist market, you won’t find any animals here (dead or alive), and the stalls are arranged in an orderly manner, with clean, swept floors and a lovely entrance. Never buy anything at face value; vendors usually increase the price by three, so use that as a reference point when haggling.

Parque Central

Surrounded by superb colonial structures, this broad and beautiful plaza is the gathering place for antigüeños and visitors alike – a fine, verdant place to sit or stroll and observe the goings-on, from hawkers and shoeshiners to school kids and groups of tourists. The buxom mermaids in the central fountain are a reconstruction of the original 1738 version, which was trashed early in the 20th century.

Arco de Santa Catalina

The Arco de Santa Catalina is Antigua's most iconic monument, and an early-morning or late-afternoon photo opportunity framing Volcán Agua through its arch is an essential part of any visit to the town. It was built in 1694 to enable nuns from the Santa Catalina convent to cross the street without being seen; the clock tower is a 19th-century add-on.

Convento Capuchinas

Inaugurated in 1736 by nuns from Madrid, the convent of Las Capuchinas was seriously damaged by the 1773 earthquake and thereafter abandoned. Thanks to meticulous renovations in recent decades, it's possible to get a sense of the life experienced by those cloistered nuns, who ran an orphanage and women's hospital.

Cerro de la Cruz

Well worth the ascent, Cerro de la Cruz provides fine views looking south over town toward Volcán Agua. The prominent cross at the head of the lookout point is devoted to the city's patron saint.
